Ron's Current Training Trip Report

Dear family and friends,

Wow, the first week went by so fast.  What a thrill to be in this lavishly green and fertile land.  Arrived in Dhaka two weeks ago.  Boni B, the head leader of this ministry, has discipled many young men and together they have planted 17 churches.  He is a quiet, gentle man but is trusting the Lord for the expansion and growth of the church in Bangladesh.  Their approach in this majority Muslim nation is to build relationships with people of all backgrounds through friendships, acts of mercy, micro finance projects and vocational training. At all times waiting expectantly to share the most important life-changing message of love and forgiveness in our Lord Jesus.  They have a presence in the community and are bringing many to faith in Christ.  One example is they helped a Muslim man start a small saw mill business which grew and became productive.  He is now a committed Christian and gives generously to the Lord's work.  Another example is a school they’e started for young Muslim girls to learn sewing so they can earn income.  They are so appreciative and open to hear the gospel.  Bony is a wise man with a long-range view for ministry and church planting in his community.  Regarding the pastor’s and leader’s conference, we had a good group of over thirty people, met for three days at a retreat center to study the Word together. What a great time!

I flew out of Dhaka on Sat. for Yangon, Myanmar.  There I spent my second week with Moses L at his seminary.  Again we had a little over thirty leaders and for three solid days we poured over God's Word again.  Remember everything is done with a translator, so it takes twice as long to communicate.  They are so hungry for the Word.  We are in a modest building with no AC, it is 90 degrees outside, but they are there soaking it all in.  Moses is a godly man and leader.  They have sent out many pastors and evangelists into Myanmar.  They also have an orphanage of thirty children -  kids given up by their parents due to poverty and other reasons. You cannot image how humble they live compared to our standard of living.  I am brought low in my heart to see their sacrifice and service of love for Christ.

The response in both places to the teaching of the New Covenant Salvation is overwhelmingly received with thankful hearts.  Both groups have asked if I would please come back and minister the Word to them again.

Thank you for praying for me.  I am half done.  My health is holding up.  My voice is  a bit weak with teaching 6-7 hours daily and putting my heart into it.  I get so passionate about God has done for us.....

Friday, Feb 22, I fly to Kolkata to meet Santosh and head up to Malda and meet with all the leaders he will be gathering together.  Please pray for my health to hold strong - my throat, and my legs that get sore from standing all day teaching.

Yours gratefully,
Ron

March Training Trip Report

Dear family and friends,

Time flies by so fast when you are doing the things you love - in my case, teaching the Bible to pastors and evangelists here in Malda, India.

The Lord is so good.  My flight out of Yangon was delayed by four hours, getting  me to Kolkata with less than an hour to cross the crowded, crazy, bustling city to the train station and the overnight sleeper car to Malda.  The attendant at the airport said I would never make it.    Santosh told the driver of the 1950's taxi to put the peddle to the metal .... and we made it by just minutes.  Father is good.

Saturday and Sunday I visited new church plants in out-lying villages.  Life has not changed much from Bible times there.  Plowing with oxen, planting rice fields barefoot one plant at a time, and women handwashing clothes, carrying water from the local well.  This is the world where Santosh and his ministry team have planted some 65 churches.

I spoke at Santosh's church in Malda in the evening.  Here is a exciting story of how God works.  Mercy, his wife, is trying to start a little business, so two Hindu ladies from Kolkata had come to hold business meetings, but not many of Mercy's contacts showed up so the meeting was cancelled.  At the same time, the church was unable to use their usual rented facility and so put up a tent in Santosh's back yard and held service there. The two business women wouldn't normally go to  church, but since it was right there at the house, they came with Mercy.   I spoke on 'what is saving faith' - and one of those women put her faith in Christ!

At the first pastors' conference we has about thirty leaders for a two days.  It went very well.  These men are so hungry for the Word!  How many of us would sit six to eight hours a day, with note book and Bible open, listening to a foreigner by way of a translator?  I cannot express the joy I feel when attempting to explain difficult spiritual truths to these humble leaders.  I am constantly praying "Help, Lord Jesus!".   Help for ways to explain truth across cultural and language barriers.  Illustrations come on the spot which relate to them in their lives.

After one evening a young Hindu man, who had attended by invitation of a pastor, approached me to ask questions.  He wanted to know the process of believing in Jesus and coming to salvation.  It is the same the world over, spiritual birth is a miracle of Father's grace and the work of the Holy Spirit. Yes, there is truth to be grasped. Yes, there is a response of mind and will, but the final cause is that wonderful miracle of rebirth when the spiritual light goes on.  I watched the light go on and the smile come to this man's face, and I rejoiced to be so used.

I finished in north India Friday, and am now in the southern tip for my last week.  My health is great.  I am becoming addicted to rice and curry.  The Lord has answered your prayers.

Blessings in our Lord,

Ron

Testamonies From Ron's Training Trip

Dear Friends in Christ,

Greetings to you in the most precious name of our Lord Jesus Christ from Myanmar. I pray that the Lord will continue to bless and use Bro. Ron for the extension of His Kingdom and for His own glory.  I would like to write some reflections from February Conference with Bro. Ron Bruno. Very pleased to say that about 40 missionaries, Christian leaders and faculty from our Peniel Theological Seminary have attended this inspiring Conference.

The topic for this conference was “WE SHALL BE LIKE HIM”. Yes, this is what supposed to be the desire of every true Christian. I am pleased to say that everyone who has attended this conference felt so inspired and blessed for three reasons: The first reason was the excellent presentation of the speaker as well as for the good translator. Ron is very good speaker and excellent presenter. He is very clear with the content of his teaching or power point. The second reason was his topic. Everyone was curious and eager to learn his topic called, ‘We Shall Be like Him’. The way he presented was “Spirit= Saved at the time of salvation, Soul= Being saved and Body=shall be saved” and he concluded that every true believer shall be like Jesus. The third reason was the spirit of eagerness in learning God’s truth with God’s servant by all our missionaries, Christian leaders and our faculty. We are not heart-hardened people but just need a man of God like Bro. Ron to teach us! These three factors were the main driving forces for the success of our Conference. Above all, the Holy Spirit is the one who make our time so special and successful.

After the conference, most of the missionaries, Christian leaders and our faculty who have attended our conference came to me and expressed their heartfelt thanks to me [Moses] and were thankful to Bro. Ron and said that we must invite Bro. Ron again. They said that they are being inspired, blessed, and now very clear to the life processes of true believers. And their desire and determination is that they will also teach others.

I would like also to say that the February Conference was very successful, meaningful and inspiration to all of us. By now, I (Moses) am very clear with this teaching and pleased with this teaching and ready to impart others also. Not only the teaching of the conference, but personal relationship! Ron is a man of relationship and understanding as well as loving people. Ron is having a gift of teaching, encouragement and showing mercy.

I am pleased to say that Bro. Ron have visited us, conducted conference for us and imparted the truth of God’s Word to us. The support that he gave us was very useful and precious, the time of visiting our Orphanage Home was very encouraging to our children and the fellowship and sharing God’s Word on Sunday was inspiring. Our personal time with him in fellowship and friendship was tremendous encouragement to us. We pray that the Lord will continue to bless him and use him for His own glory.

Please read some testimonies from two men and woman who have attended Bro. Ron’s Conference:

“I am so pleased that Bro. Ron came here with the purpose and desire of imparting God’s Salvation plan for mankind to us. This teaching seems to be a new topic for me but is the teaching of the Bible. This is what we all must learn, understand and teach others too. I have a commitment to teach this Biblical teaching to wherever I go.” ( Mrs. Hsar Tawau: Missionary and Church Planter).

“It was a tremendous and blissful for me to be on those special days of learning. Bro. Ron expounds us the truth with wholeheartedly and conviction in a very detailed way. Based on the Scripture passage from 1John 3:1-3, I personally get a lot of spiritual truth. I see the things of the Bible clearer than before. As he focused on our ‘salvation plan’, he explained us that God plan for salvation is just a single event, but in our experience it has a beginning in the past, progress in the present and completion in the future. And as we are in the time of progress, it is God’s desire that we all should grow into maturity and finally be like His Son Jesus Christ. On the process of our maturity, we learn that it is not based upon our strength but on totally trusting and submitting on the Holy Spirit. In the process of learning and teaching, he let us read the Bible passages. He asked some of us to go forward and explain whether we really understand and able to share to others too. It was such a helping way of encouraging and motivating other believers to see the truth more seriously.  It was also a good example for us to do in the ministry.”  ( Bro.Thiang Uk Lian, Bible teacher).

I found that Ron is a man of God who is rich in the Word of God. He has a deep heart for the people and teaching with deep heart and spirit. His heart and spirit for teaching the Word itself is great lesson for me. He clearly expounded the nothingness of man without Christ and His need of great salvation from God. He reminded us the process of salvation of man. He emphatically taught us the practical life of believer and his need for the guidance of the Holy Spirit for every good work. Great to know the biblical teaching concerning the Triune God and their relationship and work especially on salvation of man. The theme of our conference was very interesting for all of us. Yes, we shall be like Christ!” (Thomas Than Kep, Bible Teacher).

Dear Friends, we pray that the Lord will continue to bless Bro. Ron and his family for the extension of His Kingdom.

May God bless you.

Biography

I am sixty three years old (2011) and have been married to Gretchen for forty of them.  We've raised three sons together and have five grandchildren.  I am an alumni of Dallas Theological Seminary and a graduate (MDiv) of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School.

I have served as a pastor in three Bible churches in the states of California, Wisconsin, and Washington.  Also, Gretchen and I served as missionaries with OC International in Costa Rica and Guatemala.  There among national leadership and pastors my life’s faith vision was shaped.  I desired to serve national pastors by building personal relationships with them and passing on central Biblical truths to them so that they in turn could pass those truths on to their people.  Currently I am semi-tired and serving as a teaching associate with IMD International.  Gretchen and I mentor and disciple young adults, lead a home Bible study, and are active in our local church in Spokane Valley, Washington.

In the past several years I have been blessed serving IMD International, especially in the countries of India and Myanmar.  Building relationships with national leaders and pastors is the focus of my life in my later years.  I hope to do this as long as the Lord permits.

From an IMD Donor:

We give to Koos and Jeni Basson through IMD International for 3 reasons: 1) God led us to do this after co-laboring with them for years; 2) we know that the discipleship ministry that they are involved in will reach many in some of the most remote areas on the planet; and 3) we know that they and IMD International hold to the highest standards of integrity and ministry.

"I readily admit that it verges on the impossible to describe in any degree of adequacy the conscious, manifest presence of God... The best I possibly can hope is to put forth my personal experience backed up by Scriptural exhortation. My part is only to whet the appetite and then trust the Holy Spirit to take it from there."
